Experiencing The Presence of God
Between our busy, hectic lives and the fact that most of us are “doers”; it is so difficult for us to Stop, Be Still, Be Quiet, and JUST “BE”….Not DO anything…Just BE!
I decided I needed some “JUST BE” time and that I needed to refresh my soul by drawing close to God. So, I took off for a mini sabbatical to Mammoth Lakes, a place that has become a quasi sacred place for me, because I always feel so close to God when I am there.
The second day in, I took off hiking in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. My destination…Rainbow Falls! I’ve seen Rainbow Falls many times before but this time I had a mission. I wanted to go there, BE STILL, BE QUIET, JUST BE, and EXPERIENCE THE PRESENCE OF GOD. As I gazed at the beauty of His creation, I was mesmerized by the falls in a way that I have never been before. That was all God…He is so faithful to commune with me when I make the effort to spend quality time with Him and focus on becoming more aware of His presence.
As my eyes took in the rainbows bouncing at the bottom of the falls, I was reminded of God’s faithfulness and His promises.
As my ears soaked up the mesmerizing music of the water crashing 100 feet over the cliff I was in awe of God’s power, His omnipotence.
As I noticed, for the first time, the massive vertical walled canyon that encompasses the falls and the pool below, I became keenly aware of God’s sovereignty, the attribute by which He governs His entire creation.
As all of my senses took in the vastness of the beauty and majesty around me, I was so very aware of His presence…right there with me…all around me…..and
As I acknowledged His presence and thanked Him, I was overcome with the glory of His goodness and how great His love is for me, for all of us.
That day, while I was intentionally “JUST BEING”, and NOT DOING; I felt the awe struck wonder of just how great our God is! I can’t even tell you what that day meant to my soul and my well BEING.
I want to encourage you, to find “YOUR PLACE”. A “PLACE” where you can Stop Doing, Be Still, Be Quiet, and Just BE; so that you can experience the presence of God and be reminded of who He is, and I pray that this experience will leave you saying, “It is well with my soul.”
I know finding that “YOUR PLACE” is not always easy, so I thought I would offer to share “MY PLACE” with you. I have included a link to a video that I took at Rainbow Falls. It is less than 2 minutes long, (which can seem like along time in the middle of our hectic days), and part of it is in slow motion…to enhance the quiet). Play the video, be still, be quiet, and take it all in….for less than 2 minutes….just watch, and experience the presence of God in all His glory. Honestly I know it will be hard for many of us; that 2 minutes can seem like 2 hours, but I challenge you to do it and see if you can feel the difference in your soul. I pray you are awe struck with the wonder of how great our God is!
